Set on a gentle rise amid the trees and rolling countryside of County Meath, College Hill House is a graceful Georgian home with a rich and meaningful past. Located just outside the village of Slane, in the heart of the historic Boyne Valley, the house has stood as a quiet witness to nearly two centuries of Irish life, faith, and community.
Built in 1826, College Hill House originally served as the parochial house for the Parish of Rathkenny. More than just a residence for the local clergy, it was part of a larger spiritual centre, the grounds included a small adjoining church, used for daily mass, weddings, christenings, and countless community gatherings. This chapel remained in use right up until the 1990s, making the property a place of memory for many local families. This space now serves as our dining room for guests to enjoy.
After serving the clergy for generations, College Hill House was lovingly restored, and great care was taken to preserve the architectural integrity and period details of the home. Original features have been maintained wherever possible, while modern comforts have been gently introduced to ensure a relaxing and luxurious guest experience.
Each of the house’s stylish en-suite bedrooms is designed to reflect the charm of the original structure, combining elegant decor with contemporary ease.
The property now boasts circa 4 acres of landscaped pleasure gardens. Guests are invited to stroll the woodland paths, relax by the lakeside, or sit in the sheltered courtyard with a cup of tea and take in the birdsong and stillness of the countryside.
Today, College Hill House welcomes guests from around the world, offering a peaceful base from which to explore the Boyne Valley’s rich tapestry of history, including Newgrange, the Hill of Slane, and Slane Castle, all just a short drive away.
Whether you’re visiting for a special occasion, a touring holiday, or a restorative country escape, you’ll find that the unique blend of heritage, hospitality, and natural beauty makes College Hill House more than just a place to stay, it's a place to experience.
